Light painting

I have been currently painting this piece in reaction to seeing a artist I liked. Thinking more about use of colour and our response to colour and it’s effect on our personality’s and who we are as people. Will carry on developing this painting as example of colour and it’s effect.

Drawings from life drawing

To develop some kind of idea i have been going life drawing, plus to develop my skills. i have been finding these sessions with the life model a real positive time, seeing as i dont have a lot of time to draw from real life. During the times i have been i have been focusing on mark and being gestural, and loose. i feel a lot of my work from the past has been very traditional and i have been to scared to come out of my comfort zone, this i feel is improving by the more exploring i do in my practise and my useage of marks and paint, and medium.

Egon Schiele

While doing my current project I’ve found this very interesting painter that I’ve been researching, who’s raw and intense paintings are a aspect I have been trying to take Influence from in my practice. His colour is also causing great influence and making me think about space and negative space through my work, which parts of the work to leave and how this negativity contrast with the positive. I’m going to also think about the material I’m using to print on and what this tells me.

This image above is one of his paintings which I’m in love with the rawness of the paint, and mark and how awkward the pose is, just floating there like that. The solid white around the figure contrasting against the crisp black outline of the figure.

Untitled painting

This is a painting created from my mind of form and identity, it is quite a early idea of creating figures of identity and form, contrasting against quite emotional colour palette trying to convey emotion and identity through the choice of colour. The way I did choose to paint have some great aspects, that I want to carry on in my practise, thinking a lot more about colour and layering is a major thing I need to develop. To create a lot more conceptual work.

The painting I feel was a failure, the piece isn’t as strong I’ve decided I need to go to life drawing to source my, life drawing and shapes to form the body from a real life person, not just from my head.

IMG_0817.JPGAfter going to a life drawing session, I created a new piece over the top, of my old painting which is a great example of what I wanted to do, using colour and mark, and thinking about direction of the brush I have managed one of my most successful paintings. I feel its original and great example of my development through this project. I have also been using a long brush mark around the top curve of the figure and underneath, to exaggerate the figure, using white and cold blues and pinks on the figure giving this aura freshness about the figure contrasting against the murky dark, grey background. I’m going stick on this idea of figure, paint and this create a more sturdy concept of what these works are trying to say.

In the next few weeks I am going to continue to go life drawing and research into artists, that works are using elements that I find are interesting to mine.
